Cesta do Santiaga de Compostely, první část
V každém poutním místě do něj sbíráte razítka.
Due to enormous amount of requests I have decided to write down a series of short stories about my recent journey and also supply you with some useful tips and tricks how to get a maximum out of your trip. First of all if you are traveling through Spain or France you should definitely consider traveling as a pilgrim. Becoming one is extremely easy, you just need a so called pilgrim passport also known as Credencial which you can acquire at most tourist offices around the country. Along the way you will collect pilgrim stamps. They serve as a prove of the distance you have covered. The more stamps you have in your Credencial the more of a pilgrim you are. As a pilgrim you are entitled to a variety of discounts and all sorts of free goodies. The most noticeable and pleasant one is a possibility to sleep at a Albergue which is a hostel provided ONLY for pilgrims. There you can find a a clean bed, warm shower, place to cook a meal and wash your clothing. In most of the cases you will pay around 5 EUR per night but if you are lucky you can find one that is for free. There is a lot of information available on the internet regarding Alberques, so if this type of accommodation is for you I would recommend you to do some research in advance. All in all it is a best place to meet bunch of different people from all across the world, each with their stories, tips and tricks so definitely don't be shy, bye them a cup of coffee or make them a tea and enjoy one of a kind opportunity. Another thing to keep in mind whilst searching for the next Alberque is that most of the time majority of them are completely full by 16:00. So you have to make a reservation ( preferably via phone ) or be very quick and plan well ahead. But the best type of accommodation and one that I recommend trying is the camping in the wild. IMHO beach is the unbeatable place in this regard. Most of the beach areas are equipped with a shower, bathroom and various snack bars. But all that convenience aside the number one reason you should try beach camping are the sunrises and sunsets accompanied by the ocean waves. This is one of a kind experience you definitely won't forget and something that cannot be found elsewhere. One thing you have to keep in mind though is the fact that beach camping is illegal in most European countries. Regardless the fact I had no problems with local police what so ever. Common sense is more then enough in most of the cases. Just stay away from the crowded places, don't be rude, don't litter etc. The last thing I would like to mention is the hospitality of locals. The more you go in the southern direction the better it gets. During endless encounters and chats with locals ( that are inevitable due to the nature of southern nations ) the simple mention about your journey will lead to a drink or lunch invitation. Camino de Santiago is something that especially Spaniards are take enormous pride at. To make a conclusion to this episode: if you are traveling for new enriching experiences you simply can't lost along the way. If you are traveling as a pilgrim this saying is even more true. To be continued...
